At least nine people have died, including a child, in heavy rains that hit Ukraine's southern Odessa region, rescue services said this morning.
"All night long, rescuers worked to evacuate people trapped in the floods, pull out vehicles, pump water out of buildings," the emergency service posted on Telegram, along with images of submerged cars and rescuers helping people.
Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov announced last night that the city had received as much rain in seven hours as it does in a two-month period.
"No drainage network can handle such a load," he added.
In Ukraine, bombing by the Russian army, which controls about 20 percent of its territory, has continued, three and a half years since the launch of a major invasion in February 2022.
In Kherson in the south of the country, one man was killed in a Russian attack, according to the local military administration.
In Kharkiv, in northeastern Ukraine, authorities announced that six people were injured in heavy clashes last night, including one police officer.
