The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) today called for an "urgent end to the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which is worsening by the day" and paid special attention to the protection of journalists in Gaza so that they can safely carry out their work, the assembly announced today.
The resolution, which was adopted by the PACE at the proposal of MEP Michael German from the Liberals (ALDE), states that "the deliberate targeting of civilians and the widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure cannot be justified under the pretext of self-defense and constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law," the statement said.
The PACE demands, it adds, "an immediate, permanent and unconditional ceasefire", as well as "the immediate and unhindered entry and distribution of humanitarian aid".
"The expansion of military operations targeting Gaza City, starting in August 2025, has exacerbated the already unbearable human suffering and humanitarian catastrophe," the parliamentarians said, adding that the deliberate obstruction of humanitarian aid there also constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law.
The PACE condemned the deaths of journalists caused by Israeli attacks and called on all parties to "ensure their protection and safe and unhindered access to Gaza and the conflict areas."
The Assembly also condemned the attacks and harassment of activists on the Global Peace Flotilla sailing towards the Gaza Strip.
She claims that the flotilla was "a civilian and non-violent initiative aimed at providing humanitarian aid and drawing attention to the long-standing blockade of Gaza."
The PACE called on the Council of Europe member states to design and establish special rehabilitation programmes for Palestinian children, the statement concluded.
