Poland and Romania are deploying a new weapons system, following a series of Russian drone incursions into NATO airspace in recent months.
The American Merops system can identify drones and approach them, using artificial intelligence to navigate when satellite and electronic communications are down.
In addition to being deployed in Poland and Romania, Merops will also be used by Denmark, NATO announced.
"This system gives us very precise detection. It is capable of targeting drones and shooting them down," said Colonel Mark McClellan, Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations at NATO's Allied Land Command.
In early September, about 20 Russian drones entered Polish airspace, and in mid-September, a similar incident occurred in Romania.
Also due to drone incursions, airports in Copenhagen, Munich, Berlin and Brussels were temporarily closed.
