The Romanian Ministry of Defense announced that suspicious drone fragments were found five kilometers inside Romanian territory, following a nighttime Russian attack on Ukrainian ports on the Danube.
Romania, a member of the EU and NATO, shares a 650-kilometer land border with Ukraine and has had multiple cases of drones intruding into its airspace and their debris falling on its territory since Russia began attacking Ukrainian ports on the Danube opposite Romania.
Due to weather conditions, Romania was unable to take off fighter jets overnight, and residents in the area were warned to seek shelter, the ministry added, Reuters reported.
The suspicious fragments were found near the town of Grindu, in the southeastern Tulcea county, near the Danube, the ministry said.
Romania has received an advanced air defense system from the United States, which could improve its ability to protect itself from drones entering its airspace, the defense ministry said earlier.
