The Irish political party Sinn Fein announced today that it has expelled a member over possible links to a planned terrorist attack on migrants, the Irish Times newspaper reports.
Police had earlier raided the member's house, while her partner was arrested.
The police action was carried out as part of an investigation into a plot by an extreme right-wing group to destroy a mosque in the city of Galway, on the west coast of Ireland.
As part of the investigation, police are also investigating threats that the group will carry out a terrorist campaign against migrants, including those in accommodation centers for migrants seeking international protection.
Sinn Féin's legal spokesman Matt Carthy said the party's central committee had decided to expel the member immediately.
He added that the party does not tolerate extremist views, and stated that the partner of the woman who was expelled was not a member of the party.
The party previously confirmed that "the partner of a member has been arrested" as part of an investigation that also arrested two right-wing extremists.
"The far right has been targeting our party for several years with death threats, packages outside members' homes and offices, and more recently with violent actions," Sinn Fein said in a statement, adding that the member was expelled because she failed to inform the party that her home had been raided, nor did she report the seriousness of the situation.
