A robot controlled by artificial intelligence danced in front of President Vladimir Putin today at an exhibition organized by Sberbank, Russia's largest bank, to showcase the company's technological achievements, Reuters reports.
Footage shown on state television shows the Kremlin chief standing opposite a humanoid robot as it explains what it is, then dancing to a song he said was his favorite.
"My name is Grin. I am the first Russian humanoid robot with built-in artificial intelligence. This means that I am not just a program on a screen, but a physical embodiment of technology," the robot told Putin.
Sberbank states that the robot's software will be constantly upgraded, that the robot has the potential to perform physical tasks, and that the pilot project will enable its inclusion in certain business segments.
The unusual event was closely monitored by Putin's bodyguards; one of them, after the performance, stood between the robot and the Russian leader to make sure that the robot moved away and did not get too close to him, according to Reuters.
Putin called the robot's performance "very beautiful" and thanked it before continuing his tour.
This event occurred just days after the Moscow presentation of another Russian robot claimed to use artificial intelligence — called Idol — which ended in a fiasco when the robot fell flat on its face shortly after taking the stage.
Putin also inspected one of Sberbank's new smart ATMs, which, using a camera, can provide users with a brief health check based on ten indicators, such as pulse and blood pressure.
Putin said at the event that he had recently undergone one of his regular medical examinations and that everything was fine with his health.
