Polish President Karol Nawrocki demonstratively canceled a planned meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban today, because the latter met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, so Nawrocki is only traveling to Hungary for the Visegrad Group summit on December 3 in Esztergom.
"President Karol Navrocki has consistently advocated for a peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine provoked by the Russian Federation. Europe's security depends on solidarity, also in the field of energy. Due to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's visit to Moscow and its context, President Karol Navrocki has decided to limit the program of his visit to Hungary exclusively to the summit of the Visegrad Group presidents," Navrocki's advisor Marcin Przydacz said today.
The new Polish president planned to continue his state visit to Hungary on Thursday, following the summit of the presidents of Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland on Wednesday, during which he was also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Orban.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk criticized Navrótski for meeting with Orban on Friday, when the topic was Russian oil and gas supplies to Hungary.
"Orban visits Putin, Navrótki visits Orban. Chaos in negotiations on the Vitkoff plan, and a political crisis in Kiev. A fatal combination," Tusk said on the X network.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski told Navrock that since he is meeting with Orban, he had better work to ensure that Hungary stops blocking European sanctions on Russia and the money that Poland should receive from allied funds as compensation for sending weapons aid to Ukraine.
