The meeting between US envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin, announced for tomorrow, Tuesday, could put all the pressure on Kiev to reach a peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine, warned the European Union's (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kalas in Brussels today.
"I fear that all the pressure will be put on the weaker side because the surrender of Ukraine is the easiest way to end this war," Kallas told reporters after a meeting of EU defense ministers in Brussels, French media reported.
Vitkoff is meeting with Putin tomorrow following negotiations between the American and Ukrainian delegations last weekend in the US state of Florida.
The Ukrainian delegation was led by Rustem Umerov, who said today that "significant progress" had been achieved during those talks.
"During two very productive days in the US, we have made significant progress, although some points still require adjustment," Umerov posted on Facebook, adding that he and the American side agreed to maintain "constant" contact.
