The British Ministry of Defense announced tonight that a member of the British armed forces has been killed in Ukraine.
"He was injured in a tragic accident while watching Ukrainian forces test a new defensive capability, far from the front lines," a statement posted on the social network X said.
As reported by British media, this is the first member of the British military to die in Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his "deepest condolences" to the soldier's family.
British authorities have previously stated that a "small number" of British troops are present in Ukraine, adding that they are mainly providing security for their diplomats and supporting the Ukrainian military.
