The head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV, said today that it is unrealistic to seek a peace plan for Ukraine without including Europe in the talks.
"Seeking a peace agreement without including Europe in the discussions is, let me say, unrealistic. The war is in Europe and I think Europe must be a party to the guarantees that we need for security, both now and in the future," said the pope, who received Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
When asked by reporters about the possibility of accepting Zelensky's invitation to visit Ukraine, the Pope replied that he hoped so.
"I hope so," the pope said, but added that it was impossible to predict when such a trip might take place, the Paris newspaper Le Monde reported on its website.
