German authorities announced today that they will significantly increase military assistance to Ukraine, at an online meeting of the country's Defense Contact Group, and the delivery of a large quantity of air defense missiles was also announced.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Berlin plans to allocate an additional three billion euros in military aid next year, bringing total German aid planned for 2026 to 11,5 billion euros, French media reported.
Since the start of the war in February 2022, Germany has provided or committed to approximately 40 billion euros in military support to Kiev, making it the largest European contributor.
At the meeting, Pistorius stressed that Ukraine's security is "closely linked" to the security of Europe and that the goal is to enable Kiev to negotiate from a position of strength.
Germany plans to deliver a large number of Sidewinder missiles from its stockpile to Ukraine. These are air-to-air missiles that can be used from the ground, helicopters or fighter jets against enemy aircraft or drones.
Germany plans to continue delivering two Patriot air defense systems.
In addition, Ukraine received its ninth IRIS-T air defense system.
