A day before the announced peace talks between Ukraine and the United States (US), at least one person was killed and 27 were injured in this morning's Russian missile and drone attack on the Ukrainian capital, Kiev - this is the new toll announced by the authorities.
Explosions were heard for hours in Kiev. The attack began in the early morning hours and continued after dawn.
Among the wounded in Kiev is a 16-year-old child, the head of the city's military administration, Timur Tkachenko, said today.
In the greater Kiev area, industrial and residential buildings were hit, the Ukrainian emergency services reported.
The Russian military carried out the attacks as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky prepares for a meeting with US President Donald Trump.
Talks to end Russia's nearly four-year war against Ukraine are scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday.
Zelensky said they also plan to discuss territorial issues in the Donetsk and Zaporizhia regions claimed by Russia, as well as guarantees for Ukraine's security after the war.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced that it had carried out a "massive strike" overnight using "precision-guided long-range weapons from land, air and sea," allegedly targeting only energy infrastructure facilities used by the Ukrainian armed forces, as well as facilities of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex.
The ministry said it was a response to Ukraine's attacks on civilian targets in Russia.
Poland today, due to Russian attacks, raised fighter jets and closed airports in Lublin and Rzeszow for several hours, the Polish Armed Forces Command announced on the X network, adding that Polish airspace was not violated.
