Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said today that no one will take the European Union seriously, neither enemies nor allies, if it does not arm itself, does not believe in its own strength and does not remain united in accordance with the slogan "all for one, one for all".
"We must finally believe in our strength, continue to arm ourselves and be united like never before. One for all, all for one. Otherwise, we have failed," Tusk said on the Iks network.
This message from the Polish Prime Minister comes after the US intervention in Venezuela, after which, over the weekend, US President Donald Trump threatened that several more countries could be targeted by attacks, and reiterated that the Americans also urgently need Greenland, which directly affects the interests of one of the EU members - Denmark.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski warned last night in an interview with the English channel of the Polish public television service TVP WORLD that while he does not believe the US will completely withdraw from Europe, that alliance will be different than before.
"If the US gets involved in a war in Asia, which we cannot rule out, they may not be able to help us. That is why by the end of the decade we must have at our disposal such armed forces that Putin will not dare to test," said the head of Polish diplomacy.
Sikorski said that when it comes to Poland, there are indications that the US will invest hundreds of millions of dollars in bases in Poland.
"They have a very favorable agreement. We pay $15.000 a year for every American soldier with us. It is cheaper for the US to keep and train its soldiers here," said Sikorski.
The head of Polish diplomacy expressed fears that the Russian-Ukrainian war will turn into a frozen conflict, and that handing over Donbas to Russia would be a reward to the aggressor and just a recipe for the next war.
"Given the Russian army's advance on the front, it would take Putin decades to conquer Ukraine. But that's the problem with dictators, because when you've been in power for 20 years, no one will tell you how things really are," said Sikorski.
According to the Polish Foreign Minister, a just solution to the conflict in Ukraine can only come when Russian elites realize that the invasion was a mistake.
"At the end of the war, Ukraine must be able to integrate into the EU, but also defend its borders. Otherwise, there is a recipe for the next war. There will only be a just solution when the Russian elites admit that the original invasion was a mistake and that restoring the Russian empire is impossible," said Sikorski, a guest on TVP WORLD.
