Russian drones attacked targets in Kiev in the early hours of the morning, killing four people, injuring at least 19, and causing significant damage to residential buildings and infrastructure, Ukrainian officials said.
Timur Tkachenko, the head of the capital's military administration, and Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram that four people had been killed in the attacks, which began just before midnight. Klitschko said 19 people were injured, 14 of whom were hospitalized.
One of the dead, Klitschko said, was an emergency medical technician who arrived at a suburban apartment building that was hit by two drones in quick succession. Four other members of the same team were injured in the incident, Reuters reported.
Two residential buildings were hit on the eastern bank of the Dnieper River, causing extensive damage, he said. In one building, the entire entrance was completely destroyed, while a multi-story building in the central part of the city was also severely damaged.
Klitschko said the attack "caused damage to critical infrastructure, with water supply disruptions in some city districts."
Tkachenko said one drone caused a fire in a shopping mall, while another crashed near a medical facility. Both officials said the fires broke out in several parts of the city.
An air raid alert was in effect in the capital for five hours.
Another Russian attack hit an infrastructure facility in western Ukraine, in the Lviv region, officials there said on Friday.
