French President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday that US President Donald Trump's threat of tariffs over Greenland was unacceptable and that if it were confirmed, Europe would respond in a coordinated manner, Reuters reported.
"No intimidation or threat will affect us, neither in Ukraine, nor in Greenland, nor anywhere else in the world when we face such situations. Threats of tariffs are unacceptable and have no place in this context. Europeans will respond to them in a unified and coordinated manner if they are confirmed," Macron said on the X network.
Trump said earlier today that he would impose a 10 percent tariff on goods imported from eight European countries starting in February, due to opposition to Washington's treatment of Greenland.
He announced in a post on his social network Truth Social that Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland will face new tariffs, which will be increased to 25 percent from June 1 if an agreement is not reached on the US's "complete and complete purchase of Greenland."
