Leaders of the European Union and member states will meet tomorrow evening (January 22) in Brussels for an informal European Council meeting due to tensions over Greenland.
We will discuss recent developments in transatlantic relations and their implications for the European Union, as well as the coordination of further steps, and we will begin the meeting with an exchange of views with the President of the European Parliament, wrote European Council President Antonio Costa in his invitation letter.
The meeting starts at 19 p.m.
Two days ago, Košta announced that, due to the tension over Greenland, he would hold an extraordinary session of the European Council in the next few days.
"Given the significance of recent developments and for the sake of further coordination, I have decided to convene an extraordinary meeting of the European Council in the coming days," Košta wrote on the social network X.
He also announced that after consultations with EU member states, it was confirmed that the EU is "united in its support and solidarity with Denmark and Greenland."
The European Council is composed of the heads of state or government of the EU member states and the presidents of the European Commission and the European Council, and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy participates in the meetings, but is not a member.
