Two people suspected of attempting to assassinate senior Russian military intelligence general Vladimir Alekseev "will soon be questioned," the Russian newspaper Kommersant reported today, citing a source close to the investigation, Reuters reports.
After the hearing, charges will be filed against the suspects, the newspaper said.
Russia has not officially announced that the suspects have been detained.
Alekseev was shot yesterday in Moscow and was rushed to hospital.
As investigators said yesterday, an unidentified assailant fired multiple shots at Alekseev, deputy head of the GRU, Russia's military intelligence service, before fleeing the scene.
Alekseev, given his position, was closely involved in the conduct of Russia's war in Ukraine.
Alekseev's work was honored by Russian President Vladimir Putin with the title "Hero of Russia".
