In the last week, 13 skiers and hikers have died in the Italian mountains.
Rescuers said 10 people died in the avalanches.
Fresh snowfall during recent blizzards has created hazardous conditions in the Alps, along the French, Swiss and Austrian borders.
"In such conditions, the passage of a single skier or the natural overloading of the snow with its own weight could be enough to trigger an avalanche," said Federico Catania, spokesman for the Italian Alpine Rescue Corps.
Avalanche deaths have occurred off-piste, far from Olympic venues, as well as on ski slopes in Val di Fiemme in the autonomous province of Trentino.
"There is no danger for people skiing in controlled ski areas, and in particular there is no risk to Olympic sites. All these areas are constantly monitored and are generally safe," Catania added.
