Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said tonight that the Ukrainian people would reject any peace agreement that would include Ukraine's unilateral withdrawal from the eastern Donbas region and its ceding to Russia.
Zelensky, who spoke about the ongoing peace negotiations in an interview with the American media outlet Axios, said it was unfair that US President Donald Trump continues to publicly demand concessions from Ukraine, and not from Russia, to achieve peace.
The Ukrainian president said that while it might be easier for Trump to put pressure on Ukraine than on the much larger Russia, the way to create lasting peace is not by surrendering victory to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump has said twice in recent days that it is up to the Ukrainian president to make concessions.
"I hope this is just a tactic on his (Trump's) part, not a decision," Zelensky added.
