The head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV, today appealed for a ceasefire in Ukraine and said that the end of the war in that country "cannot be postponed."
"My heart again sympathizes with the dramatic situation that everyone can see. So many victims, so many broken lives and families, so much destruction, so much indescribable suffering," the pope said during his Sunday address to pilgrims in St. Peter's Square in Rome, Reuters reported.
The Pope added that "peace cannot be postponed" and that "it is an urgent need that must find space in hearts and be translated into responsible decisions."
He said that war is "a wound inflicted on all of humanity" that leaves behind "death, destruction and a trail of pain that marks generations."
