German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said today that Russian President Vladimir Putin is "at the very bottom of barbarism."
On the eve of the fourth anniversary of the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Merz said that "Russia is not winning this war" as Russia wants to portray it, because the facts are completely different, French media reported.
"It's part of propaganda and falls within the framework of psychological warfare. Russia wants us to believe that, but the facts are completely different," Merck said at a rally in Berlin in support of Ukraine, in the presence of the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany.
"On the front, Russia is no longer winning, on the contrary. February was marked by surprising territorial gains by the Ukrainian army, and the Russian economy is suffering more from sanctions and war than the media sometimes leads us to believe," said Merc.
Although the European Union will not be able to adopt new sanctions against Russia today due to Hungary's veto, Merz called on "European partners not to relent in their joint support for Ukraine."
"We are at a turning point that could decide the fate of our entire continent," said Merz, pointing out that everyone must be aware that the way this war ends will have a lasting impact on the lives of people in Europe and its role in the world.
