Ukraine is proposing to Russia a pause in mutual attacks on energy infrastructure during Easter, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

The offer has already been sent to the Russian side via the United States, which is mediating talks between delegations from Moscow and Kiev, Zelensky said.

"If Russia is ready to stop attacks on our energy infrastructure, we will be ready to retaliate in kind," he added.

No one has spoken from Moscow.

Previous attempts to achieve a ceasefire had little or no effect.

Russian President Vladimir Putin unilaterally declared a 30-hour ceasefire for Easter last year, but both sides accused each other of violating the ceasefire.

Russia has effectively rejected a unilateral US-Ukrainian proposal for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire as a step towards peace, insisting on a comprehensive solution, but Moscow has announced short unilateral ceasefires several times.

Zelensky said he doubts the Kremlin will accept his offer for a break during the holidays, as Russia is currently benefiting from higher oil prices caused by the war in Iran.

The Ukrainian president also added that he is concerned that prolonged US-Israeli aggression against Iran could weaken American support for Ukraine.
