A network operated from abroad that was mobilized last year to influence elections in the Netherlands has been redirected to support outgoing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on the social network Xx ahead of parliamentary elections, the non-governmental organization Alliance4Europe said.
As reported by the Belgian public service RTBF, the network, which consists of several hundred fake accounts "operated from Nigeria and other West African and Asian countries, was systematically redirected during the European elections to artificially amplify far-right content, and its character is pro-Russian and anti-establishment," stated the non-governmental organization active in the fight against disinformation.
“This network was first identified during the parliamentary elections in the Netherlands in October 2025, and has now been observed operating using the same modus operandi ahead of the elections in Hungary,” the Alliance for Europe added.
According to the NGO, these accounts operate in an automated and coordinated manner to manipulate the algorithms of the social network X, giving greater visibility to pro-Orban and pro-Russian accounts in the Hungarian language by massively sharing their content.
The election campaign in Hungary has been marked by accusations of interference from Moscow, and experts cite evidence of continued Russian efforts to support Orban, RTBF reports.
The Hungarian prime minister, in power since 2010, is seeking a fifth term in parliamentary elections scheduled for tomorrow. His pro-European rival, Peter Magyar, is far ahead in independent polls, Belgian television added.
