Three people were killed and 40 were injured in a combined Russian missile and drone attack on the Ukrainian capital, Kiev.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko said 40 people were injured, including a newborn baby and a child.
A nine-story building was demolished after being hit by a drone.
Rescuers managed to pull out 27 people, but it is believed that there are more people under the rubble, reports Ukrainska Pravda.
Klitschko also reported water supply disruptions on the city's left bank following the attack.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his condolences to the families of the victims at the IX.
He wrote that the Russians launched more than 670 drones and 56 missiles into Ukraine overnight, and assessed that these were not the actions of people who believe that the war is coming to an end.
"Damage was recorded at twenty locations in the city – ordinary residential buildings, a school, a veterinary clinic and other exclusively civilian infrastructure. Destruction was also reported in the Kyiv region, while similar terrorist attacks targeted energy infrastructure in Kremenchuk, as well as ports and residential areas in Chornomorsk," he wrote.
He called on partners not to remain silent in the face of attacks and to continue their support in protecting Ukrainian skies.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibikha wrote on X that the "barbaric attack" occurred while the leaders of the most powerful countries - the US and China, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping - were meeting in Beijing, and "when the world expects peace, predictability and cooperation."
"This barbaric attack during such an important summit shows that the Russian regime poses a global threat to international security. Instead of peace and development, Moscow pursues aggression and terror," the minister wrote.
He added that entire blocks of apartment buildings were destroyed in Kiev.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, he added, wants the war to last in order to extend his control and power in Russia.
"There must be no illusions: only pressure on Moscow can make it stop. I am sure that the leaders of the US and China have enough influence over Moscow to tell Putin to finally end the war. That would be the biggest positive development," he wrote.
The attack hit civilian infrastructure and residential buildings in several Ukrainian cities, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko said, noting that Kiev suffered the greatest losses.
The attack, which used both ballistic and cruise missiles, targeted, in addition to Kiev, the cities of Kremenchuk, Bela Tskva, Kharkiv, Sumy and Odessa, the Prime Minister said.
Damage was reported in six districts of the capital, said Timur Tkachenko, the head of the city's military administration. He warned that Russia was attacking the city with ballistic missiles and drones, and that residential buildings and civilian infrastructure had been damaged.
In Kiev's Darnytskyi district, a multi-storey residential building partially collapsed, and at least 27 injured people were pulled from the rubble, Ukrainian emergency services said.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said 18 apartments had been destroyed. He said there were problems with the water supply on the city's left bank as a result of the attack.
Emergency services are also operating in the Kiev neighborhoods of Obolonsji and Holosivskij.
In the Dnieper district, a drone hit the roof of a five-story apartment building, Tkachenko said. Another building in the same district was damaged.
This morning's attack came just hours after an attack on Kiev on Wednesday that killed at least six people, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Yesterday's attack, involving 800 drones, hit about 20 Ukrainian regions and was one of the largest of the war.
Zelensky said that yesterday's attacks lasted for hours and were aimed at causing as much "pain and sorrow" as possible.
