Rescuers in eastern Germany have been searching since this morning for three people who are missing after an explosion and collapse of the building they were staying in.
Police said last night's explosion in the town of Görlitz, on the border with Poland, was possibly caused by a gas leak.
Rescuers unsuccessfully tried to locate the missing people under the rubble last night with the help of sniffer dogs, and early this morning they began clearing the collapsed parts of the building with an excavator and by hand.
It was initially assumed that five people were trapped in the rubble, which later turned out to be incorrect, police added.
The apartments in the building are mainly used for rental and vacation purposes.
Görlitz is the easternmost city in Germany and has a population of around 57.000, and its old town is a popular destination for international film productions.
