Russia began three days of nuclear exercises today that will include launches of ballistic and cruise missiles, the Russian Defense Ministry announced today.
The exercises, which involve 64.000 soldiers and 7.800 pieces of military equipment, are aimed at practicing "the readiness and use of nuclear forces in the event of aggression."
The maneuvers will involve Russia's missile forces, the Northern and Pacific Fleets, long-range aviation, and units from the Leningrad and Central Military Districts, the ministry said.
More than 200 missile launchers, 140 aircraft, 73 ships and 13 submarines including eight strategic nuclear submarines will be involved, Reuters reported.
The exercises will also include training on the use of Russian tactical nuclear weapons deployed in Belarus, the ministry said.
