A Romanian F16 jet belonging to NATO's Baltic airspace control wing shot down an alleged Ukrainian drone in southern Estonia today, authorities said.
Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said the drone was shot down because of its trajectory.
"Most likely today we can say that it was a drone that was, let's say, intended to hit some Russian targets," he told the Associated Press (AP).
Today's drone overflight is the latest in a series of incidents in recent months in which Ukrainian aircraft headed toward Russia have flown or landed on NATO territory.
Kiev is gradually stepping up drone attacks, focusing on Russian energy facilities and weapons factories.
The Estonian Defense Minister advised Ukraine to be cautious.
"Our messages have not changed. We have been telling the Ukrainians all along that if they are attacking Russian positions or Russian targets, then those trajectories must be as far away from NATO territory as possible," Pevkur said.
