Ukraine said today that it had hit five ships carrying illegal cargo in the Sea of Azov and coastal waters of Russian-occupied territories, and also confirmed that one of its naval drones had exploded off the Romanian coast.
A Ukrainian official said the hit ships were involved in the "theft" of Ukrainian grain, as well as the transfer of military cargo and fuel.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense announced earlier today that a naval drone exploded this morning at around 10:30 a.m. local time in the Romanian civilian port of Constanta, near the headquarters of the Romanian Maritime Safety Agency, and that there were no casualties.
Romanian President Nicos Dan wrote on the X network that the naval drone that exploded this morning in the port of Constanta was part of a military operation led by Ukraine against Russian aggression, adding that Ukrainian forces lost control of it as a result of electronic jamming by Russia.
"The entry of this drone into Romanian sovereign space is a direct consequence of the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine," he wrote.

Constanta's chief official, Teodor Picoiu, said the Ukrainian side had informed them that the drone was part of a group of five, one of which exploded in Ukraine. It is not known where the other three drones went, but officials said they no longer posed a risk, the BBC reports.
The drone's entry into Romanian territory came a week after two people were injured when a drone hit a Romanian apartment building in the eastern city of Galati, near the border with Ukraine. Romanian officials said at the time they had confirmed it was a Russian drone, but Moscow rejected the allegations as "unsubstantiated."
Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry confirmed that five Azerbaijani citizens were killed in an attack on two ships in the Sea of Azov, but that the ships did not belong to Azerbaijan. The ministry did not say who was behind the attacks.
