Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibikha announced today that Russian President Vladimir Putin "lost the chance to get out of his failed war" by rejecting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's invitation for direct peace talks.
Sibiha wrote in a post on X that "there is no good news for the Russians."
"Things will only get worse for Russia. Battlefield losses will continue to mount. Failures will become increasingly humiliating," the post said.
Sibiha stated that "there are no safe places in Russia that can be exempted from long-term sanctions on Ukraine," and that their intensity "will continue to grow."
"International pressure will not let up. It will only intensify," he added.
Sibiha assessed that "Russia will still have to accept a diplomatic solution, but the conditions will be far worse."
"Putin's rejection of peace should lead to a significant increase in international pressure on Russia and support for Ukraine," the post concludes.
