Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told Sky News last night that he had delivered messages to Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich for his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
"He (Abramovich) came to Kiev. He said: 'I have a message directly for you and I want to receive messages from you and convey them to Putin.' But he said that it must be done discreetly, without any publicity. I said that it was his choice, and for us it is not important," the Ukrainian president explained, claiming that the visit was "not a secret."
The oligarch wanted to understand "what we are ready to do" to achieve peace, added Zelensky, who said he ruled out any talks about the secession of Donbas.
"That was the key message. I said we will not leave (Donbas). We will not allow them to win in this way," Zelensky stressed.
When asked if Abramovich acted as an intermediary between him and his Russian counterpart, he replied: "When he received my messages, he said he would go directly to Putin."
The oligarch had already discreetly played the role of mediator in the negotiations that took place in March 2022.
