Seven people were killed and two injured in western Hungary early on Monday when a minibus carrying nine passengers crashed into a truck that was in a traffic jam caused by an earlier accident on the M1 motorway, police said.
The accident occurred near Győr, 122 kilometers west of Budapest, and followed a previous accident in the same area in which a truck hit a construction vehicle, killing one person and causing traffic delays.
Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar announced on Facebook that the victims were foreign nationals.
"I express my sincere condolences to the families," he wrote.
The Hungarian did not specify the nationality of the victims, and the police did not immediately respond to questions from Reuters.
Police told the 24.hu portal that all the victims were men, that the minibus had Moldovan license plates, and that the truck involved in the first accident was also registered in Moldova.
