Son of Norwegian princess sentenced to four years in prison for rape

The son of Norwegian Princess Mette-Marit, Marius Borg Hojbi, has been sentenced to four years in prison for rape.

He was found guilty of two of the four rape charges against him, while he was acquitted of the remaining two.

He was also convicted of assault and abuse in a close relationship. In addition to the prison sentence, Hojby was ordered to pay compensation to the victims.

Hojby was accused of sexually assaulting four women between 2018 and 2024.

He faced a total of 40 criminal charges, including some for minor offenses, such as assault, drug-related offenses and violating a restraining order.

Hojbi denied the rape charges, but admitted to several minor offenses.

Prosecutors had sought a sentence of seven years and seven months in prison for Hojbi, while defense lawyers argued that he should be acquitted of the rape charges and receive a maximum of 18 months for the crimes he admitted to.

The verdict is not final and Hojbi has the right to appeal.

This case attracted international attention because of Hojbi's connection to the royal family.

Although he has no royal title or official duties, he is the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a relationship before her marriage to Crown Prince Haakon, heir to the Norwegian throne, and he grew up in the household of the future king.
