Moscow oil refinery damaged in Ukrainian drone attack

A Ukrainian drone attack damaged a facility at a Moscow oil refinery owned by Russia's Gazpromneft, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Tuesday.

"There were no casualties. Emergency services are on the scene," Sobyanin wrote on Telegram, Reuters reports.

He did not say whether the refinery's operations were affected.

The plant, the largest in the Moscow region, processed 11,6 million tons of oil in 2024, producing 2,9 million tons of gasoline and 3,2 million tons of diesel, according to the latest available data.

The number of drone attacks on Russian refineries has doubled since the beginning of 2026, leading to a complete or partial halt in oil refining and a drop in gasoline, diesel and jet fuel production, according to official data, social media posts and Reuters calculations.

The Gazpromneft refinery supplies the Moscow Region, which has not so far been among the dozen Russian regions that have experienced supply disruptions.
