The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) today claimed responsibility for the attack on the Avero tanker, which it believes belongs to the Russian phantom fleet in the Black Sea, as well as for attacks on three oil depots in Stavropol, Russia.
The ship, which was hit by the Ukrainian naval drone Mamai, was transporting Russian crude oil to China and India, bypassing an embargo imposed on Russia by Western countries.
According to the SBU, this is the fourth oil tanker of the Russian fleet that its forces have hit in the last ten days.
The SBU also claimed responsibility for an attack on three oil depots in the Stavropol region, about 600 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
Kiev claims that the aim of these operations is to disrupt Russian oil exports, reduce the revenues that finance the war, and limit fuel supplies to the Russian military.
