Charles Spencer, brother of the late British Princess Diana, is preparing to publish a book about her life, promising to reveal the truth about her as the 30th anniversary of her death approaches.
Diana, the first wife of the current British King Charles III, was 36 years old in August 1997 when she and her lover died in a car accident while fleeing from photographers in Paris.
The book "Swan Song: Diana, My Sister" is due to be published next month in the UK and then worldwide, the British agency Reuters reported today.
“As we approach the 30th anniversary of Diana’s tragic death, I am once again inundated with requests for interviews about my sister,” said Charles Spencer.
Diana's brother added that this convinced him to put his thoughts and memories on paper once and for all, rather than "having to endure the discomfort of re-reading other people's opinions, many of which are based on lies that have taken root over time."
Diana became the most photographed woman in the world after she married Charles in a lavish ceremony in 1981, and the marriage ended in divorce in 1996.
At her funeral, Charles Spencer gave a now-famous speech criticizing the royal family.
"The aim of this book is to tell the truth about Diana from my perspective as her brother, just as I attempted to in my speech at her funeral. As in that speech, I want to speak on Diana's behalf and to do so in an overtly positive way," Spencer said.
Daniel Bunyard, director of Penguin Random House, said the book would be "a work of historic significance."
