Nine people were injured today in a Russian drone attack on the building of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Kiev, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
He said that the floor slab of one floor and the outer wall of the building were destroyed, while the fire inside was under control.
The SBU, responsible for counterintelligence and anti-terrorism activities, is involved in special operations against Russia's forces and energy infrastructure and in targeted attacks on Russian officials.
It was not said whether the wounded were SBU members, although Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the drone targeted "directly the office of the SBU chief."
Zelensky said that SBU chief Oleksandr Poklad has been tasked with preparing an "appropriate, significant and, if possible, symmetrical" response to this attack, with the support of the Ukrainian military.
The attack on the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) building in Kiev was a specially planned Russian operation, Ukrainian radio communications expert Serhiy Beskrestnov said today.
He wrote on Telegram that the Shahed drone was controlled and guided in real time using a small, internet-connected MESH radio relay installed near the target, which was briefly activated by a Russian agent less than five kilometers from the building.
Such a device is about half the size of a school backpack.
The expert emphasized that no other Shahed drone was in the air at that moment, which, in his opinion, rules out piloting via a relay chain from Russia.
