Russian President Vladimir Putin said today at a meeting with American mediators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner that Moscow is satisfied with cooperation with Washington, and that Ukraine has reduced the number of attacks on his country.
Kouchner and Vitkoff arrived in Russia today, and they will also talk with Ukrainian officials in Kiev tomorrow.
"Here, of course, the quality of mediation and trust in those involved are very important. I want to tell you that we are pleased to cooperate with you and that, of course, the level of trust in this work on our part is high," Putin said, according to the TASS news agency.
He stated that "the Ukrainian side has significantly reduced its attacks on Russian territory, including on Moscow."
Putin, regarding the three-day ceasefire that he and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced, said that Russia "has not reached a (broader) agreement with Ukraine on a three-day ceasefire that would encompass more than just a cessation of attacks on major cities."
"The Ukrainian authorities have called for a broader, three-day ceasefire, but we have never agreed on that with them. However, we will do everything in our power to ensure the safety of the negotiation process and the mediators - you and those accompanying you," Putin told the American negotiators.
Putin told Vitkoff and Kouchner tonight that contacts between Moscow and Washington are always useful and that Russia is comfortable cooperating with them.
Witkoff, as reported by Reuters, said that US President Donald Trump sent his best wishes to Putin and thanked him for the ceasefire during the visit of the US delegation.
Putin said that Russia would do everything in its power to ensure the safety of the mediators, and described the situation he would deal with with the American envoys during the negotiations as difficult.
The Russian president has ordered a three-day ceasefire in attacks on Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, starting today, in preparation for a visit by a US delegation, the Interfax news agency reported earlier today, citing Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
US President Donald Trump hinted on Friday that the United States (US) has a new concrete proposal aimed at ending the war, now in its fifth year. However, he did not provide details on what that proposal would entail.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday that Vitkoff and Kushner would travel to Ukraine on Sunday after visiting Moscow. Zelensky said in a post on the X network on Saturday that Russia had hit two Ukrainian airports ahead of a visit by US envoys to Kiev.
