A British man has admitted to repeatedly drugging and raping his wife in their home for more than two decades, just before his trial was due to begin.
The man, in his 60s from northern England, has not been named because it would reveal the identity of his wife, who has the right to remain anonymous for life. He pleaded guilty to 45 charges at Manchester Crown Court, after previously admitting 15 other offences, Reuters reports.
The man pleaded guilty, among other things, to 21 rapes, 15 penetrative sexual assaults, 11 sexual assaults and one count of sharing intimate footage without consent, for acts committed between 2004 and 2025.
He also admitted that he gave his wife a substance to drug her.
Prosecutors allege that the woman was repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted in her own home while she was unconscious, after her husband drugged her.
Another 12 men, aged 28 to 74, have been accused of sexually assaulting the victim between 2018 and 2025. All have denied the charges, which include rape, Reuters reports.
Their trial is scheduled to be held before the same court, and is expected to last several months.
