Five people were killed and at least seven others were wounded in a Russian drone attack on a passenger bus in southeastern Ukraine today, near the front line, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Governor Oleksandr Khanzha said, Reuters news agency reports.
The attack took place in the area around the town of Nikopol, Hanža announced on Telegram.
Hanža posted a photo of a white vehicle with broken windows and traces of blood running down its side.
The city is located across from Russian-occupied territory, a few kilometers away on the other bank of the Dnieper, and is a regular target of Russian attacks.
"The Russians cynically attacked a passenger bus. They targeted a minibus carrying people going about their daily business," said Mykola Lukashuk, chairman of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council.
Russia did not immediately comment on the attack. Both Ukraine and Russia deny deliberately targeting civilians in the war that began with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Also, the governor of central Ukraine's Poltava region said that Russia attacked energy infrastructure in that region overnight.
Governor Vitaly Dyakivnych stated on Telegram that a Russian drone hit an unnamed industrial facility.
On the other hand, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced today that it had hit a cargo ship in the Ukrainian Black Sea port of Chornomorsk, in the Odessa region.
