The Turkish authorities invited the Swiss ambassador to Turkey for a conversation today to convey their displeasure over the pro-Kurdish rally held in Bern, which the Ankara authorities characterized as a "terrorist rally", diplomatic sources said.
"Ambassador Walter Hafner was invited for an interview and we told him that the culprits must be brought to justice," said the same sources.
The Turkish authorities sent a protest to the Swiss authorities late last night after the pro-Kurdish meeting in Bern, where, according to the Turkish media, the gathered people carried placards "Kill Erdogan".
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu spoke by phone with his Swiss counterpart Didier Burkhalter to whom he conveyed "Turkey's fierce reaction to that evil incident."
The Turkish authorities first invited the chargé d'affaires of the Swiss embassy to a meeting, who was handed a protest note because of the permit for the meeting and display of posters against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Several thousand people gathered in Bern on Saturday at the invitation of Kurdish associations and political parties in Switzerland.
The gathering comes as Turkey has already strained relations with the European Union due to the ban on gatherings of the Turkish community that were supposed to provide support for a referendum on strengthening presidential powers in Turkey.
Such a rally in support of Erdogan was canceled in mid-March in Switzerland as well. The hotel in Zurich, where the rally where Cavusoglu was to address, refused to rent the hall.
