Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today that the "spirit of fascism" is raging in Europe after Turkish politicians were banned from campaigning in several European countries.
"The spirit of fascism is running rampant on the streets of Europe. Europe is heading towards drowning in its own fears," Erdogan said in a televised address, according to AFP.
Islamophobia and, as he said, Turkophobia is on the rise.
Europe "is afraid even of the migrants it shelters," Erdogan added.
Official Ankara is at loggerheads with several European countries that have asked Turkish ministers to end rallies ahead of a referendum on constitutional changes to be held in Turkey in April.
Turkey's conflict with European countries escalated late last week, when the Netherlands banned Turkish ministers from holding such meetings.
Because of this, Erdogan called the Dutch "Nazi remnants and fascists", and previously he also accused Germany of "Nazi practices".
