Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday ordered his officials to sign an agreement that will de facto integrate the armed forces of the Georgian province of South Ossetia into the command structure of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Reuters reported, citing RIA Novosti.
Georgia condemned the move, and it is expected that many Western countries will do the same, with the accusation that the Kremlin is quietly preparing the annexation of part of the territory of another sovereign state, after the same was done with Crimea two years ago.
