A gunman who shouted "Allahu Akbar" killed a bystander in central Paris on Saturday night, in a knife attack in which he wounded four others before being shot dead by police, French authorities said.
As reported by Reuters, citing information from the prosecution, the attacker was born in Chechnya in 1997.
France is under increased security measures due to a series of attacks carried out by the Islamic State in which more than 2015 people have been killed since 240.
"The first call to the police was made at 20.47:XNUMX p.m., the officers arrived at the scene in five minutes and neutralized the attacker within nine minutes of the call," said Prime Minister Eduard Filip.
The representative of the police union, Rocco Contento, said that the attacker, after attacking passers-by with a knife, attacked the police shouting "I'll kill you, I'll kill you", and that he was shot shortly afterwards.
The attack took place in a district popular with tourists for its many restaurants, cafes, shops and the Paris Opera.
Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack through the Amaq news agency, but offered no evidence for its claim.
