Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno said today that Great Britain has given sufficient guarantees to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to allow him to leave the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where he has lived since 2012.
Moreno said his government had received written assurances from their British counterparts that Assange would not be extradited to a country where he would face the death penalty.
The Ecuadorian leader did not say that he would expel Assange from the embassy, and added that the WikiLeaks founder's legal team was considering the next steps.
Assange has long claimed that a sealed indictment was filed against him in the US for publishing highly sensitive US government information on his website.
