Queen Elizabeth will invite the newly elected US President Donald Trump to visit Great Britain next year, in order to "cement" the close ties between the two countries, the "Sunday Times" newspaper reports today.
Citing two ministers and an official close to the prime minister, the newspaper stated that negotiations between Britain and Trump's team about the visit will begin soon, so that Trump will come to Great Britain in June or July next year, reports Reuters.
The paper also reported that Britain wants to improve the "special relationship with the US" as it prepares to leave the EU.
In a telephone conversation after his victory, Trump urged Prime Minister Theresa May to visit him as soon as possible, the Prime Minister's office said, adding that no date has yet been set for her visit to America.
The "Sunday Times" also stated that the British government hopes that the official visit will be a "secret weapon" to cement relations, after Trump's meeting with the leader of the Brexit campaign, Nigel Farage.
