German Chancellor Angela Merkel today accused Syrian government forces of committing "crimes against humanity" that cannot be overlooked.
"He does not shy away from using barrel bombs and incendiary devices, and even chemical weapons," Merkel said in Berlin, according to Reuters.
"The civilian population is starving, health institutions are being attacked, doctors are dying and hospitals are being destroyed," Merkel said, adding that even United Nations humanitarian convoys were not spared, Reuters reports.
These, she emphasized, are serious crimes against humanity.
The UN said on Tuesday that all conflicting parties in the Syrian city of Aleppo may have committed war crimes with indiscriminate attacks on civilian settlements.
