The world is poorer for another animal species: the Tofi frog has died

The only remaining specimen of a rare species of frog (Ecnomiohyla rabborum) has died at the Atlanta Zoo, leaving the world poorer for another animal species.

In the last few decades, hundreds of amphibians have died out, and the same fate, due to environmental pollution and the destruction of their natural habitats, threatens many other species as well, Index writes, and the "Ljubimac" portal reports.

Tofi the frog lived in Panama, from where he was moved a few years ago to the botanical garden located within the Atlanta Zoo, together with several other members of his species, which was discovered only in 2005.

The relocation was decided when the biologists who discovered this species of frogs quickly discovered that due to a deadly disease that affected their habitat, it was already on the verge of extinction.

Experts hoped that by studying Tofio and its relatives, they would find a way to prevent extinction and restore the species through captive breeding.

Unfortunately, after the last female died in 2009, and three years later the penultimate male, it became clear to everyone that with the death of Tofi (who lived alone for four years), the world will become poorer for one animal species.
