UN: 1,75 million people in Aleppo left without water, the siege has begun

The United Nations announced that, following intense attacks on areas held by Syrian rebels in Aleppo, one million seven hundred and fifty thousand people were left without water a few days after the start of one of the most intense sieges during this war, "Voice of America" ​​reports.

The UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) says a key water pumping station in the eastern part of the city has been damaged in airstrikes and further violence is preventing crews from repairing it. The same group says that in retaliation, another water pumping station was turned off.

UNICEF says it will expand emergency water delivery by truck in response to this situation. The same organization announces that "it is critical for the survival of children that all parties to the conflict stop attacks on water supply infrastructure, and provide access to and repair of these facilities."

"Voice of America" ​​claims that incessant airstrikes on the rebel-held parts of Aleppo have continued today and that many buildings have been completely demolished down to the basements where many people were hiding from the bombings. Residents say the attacks are more intense than bombs and missiles used in the past and are causing "earthquake-like tremors."

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claims at least 25 people were killed today. The previous day, at least 30 people, including several children, were killed in Russian and Syrian government airstrikes.

Eyewitnesses say the intensification of airstrikes began late Wednesday as the Syrian government announced a renewed offensive aimed at capturing the entire city. This happened after the failure of the US and Russia to save the ceasefire that reduced hostilities for almost a week.

Voice of America claims that the intensive bombing attacks are targeting residential areas and buildings used by volunteer groups such as the White Helmets.
