Chaos in the House of Representatives of the US Congress continued today after Democrats sat on the floor of the chamber in protest for 14 hours demanding the adoption of gun control legislation, which Republicans oppose.
They tried to silence Speaker Paul Ryan who tried to restore order tonight.
"Chairman, this is not a publicity stunt. This is a wake-up call," said Mark Takano, Democrat of California, according to the AP.
Democrats broadcast the chaotic scenes live on their cellphones after Republicans shut down the cable channel.
The action came after the speaker intended to call a recess for the July 4 holiday.
Democrats have introduced several bills aimed at reducing gun violence, but none have passed the Republican-dominated Congress.
"It's a shame you have to resort to emergency measures like these. I think we're going to be here until they decide to vote," Congresswoman Karen Bess told MSNBC.
Speaker Ryan has refused to schedule a vote on gun control changes that Democrats have been pushing for, especially after the recent Orlando nightclub shooting that left 49 dead and 53 injured.
Earlier this week, the Senate voted on four amendments to the gun control bill, but failed to pass any of them.
