At least 22 people were killed in clashes between the terrorist organization Islamic State and Al Qaeda branches in the port city of Aden, in the south of Yemen, at a time when Yemeni government forces are fighting against both groups, the country's security officials announced today.
Among the victims are 17 people from Al-Qaeda, three people from government forces, two dead civilians, officials said.
The conflict erupted Saturday when government forces tried to retake areas controlled by local al-Qaeda and Islamic State affiliates, forcing civilians to flee their homes.
Both terrorist groups are using Yemen's 18-month civil war to expand the territories they control in southern and eastern Yemen.
